Scott Hogan
Bass Guitar, Vocals |
Scott
Hogan began playing music at age 8, playing alto saxophone and
the piano, but became really interested in playing music at age
13 when he began playing bass. He took private lessons from a
local musician studying classical music, jazz, and rock for four
years. His teacher noticed his talent and found him some work
with a wedding band when he was 15. From working with that band
Scott branched out to work with other acts in bars and clubs. At
age 17 Scott began taking lessons at the Bass Collective in New
York City. He studied under John Patittucci who really opened
Scott's eyes to what could be expressed on an instrument and how
a professional should act. He also urged Scott to listen and
play as much jazz as possible. John Patittucci recommended Scott
to Mercury Records who was looking for young talent to back up
one of their new bands. Scott began touring with the pop group
Hanson for the next four years. He played bass for the band on
over sixty tv appearances including the 1999 Grammys, David
Letterman, the Jay Leno Show, and Saturday Night Live. During
his time in between tours Scott attended New York University for
a year and a half and Rutgers Mason Grosse for a year, as a jazz
performance major. He studied bass with Mike Richmond while in
school. He was already making a living as a musician and decided
to pursue his career rather than finish his schooling. Now Scott
teaches private bass lessons and performs with local bands. He
enjoys and appreciates being able to work with a variety of
musicians and being able to stay in one place. One of the bands
named Roarke is signed to Drive Thru Records and is releasing an
album soon. Scott tries to remain humble realizing that there is
still a lot more he needs to learn about music and working with
other musicians. Most of his teachers have said it is an ongoing
process throughout their entire lives. Scott tries to adhere to
the belief that playing with great musicians and friends can
make playing any song a great experience. |

Bruce
Gatewood
Lead Guitar, Vocals
|
At the age of
6, Bruce Gatewood started playing guitar. Influenced by The
Beatles, Kiss, Rush and many more, Bruce also plays other
instruments which include bass guitar, percussions, keyboards,
mandolin, ukulele, lap steel and banjo as well as the lead
guitar. Playing Rock and Pop music at a young age gave Bruce the
springboard to further his passion in music. He has studied with
Anton Palowski and Anna Marie Rosado. As a licensed teacher of
the “Music Together” early music and movement program with a BA
in music from the New Jersey City University, he still finds
time to give back to the community teaching, volunteering and
performing at fundraising events where proceeds are donated to
the American Red Cross, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Toys for
Tots and the terminally ill children and adults with outstanding
medical bills. He is currently involved with the music
production of local and national artists, most recently Joe
Colledge, Disciples Opera, Bubba Lube and Roadside Alibi. A very
charismatic performer, Bruce’s guitar performance can best be
compared to Frank Zappa, Django Reinhart, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie
Van Halen, Wes Montgomery, Bach and Beethoven. With his diverse
influence in music, He has all the technique and talent to play
many styles of music including Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical,
Country, World, R & B, Hip-Hop and Acid Jazz with the intensity
and passion that you have never seen before. As a vocalist, he
is as melodic and captivating in his singing ability as he is in
his guitar playing. Ask Bruce what's his secret to following his
passion in music and you'll hear him say with an unforgettable
smile, “staying true to my center while being lighthearted.
Meditation helps me persevere”. |

William
Ash
Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Piccolo Trumpet, French Horn |
William or what we call him, Bill Ash first picked up a trumpet
in fourth grade, and has hardly put it down since — except to
play another instrument or write some music. In high school he
began playing professionally, and at 16 was leading his own
15-piece big band. While studying architecture at Princeton,
Bill continued freelancing, again led his own big band, and
began composing, arranging, and doubling on trombone and French
horn. After graduation, he worked as an architect, then in
computers, all the while maintaining a busy musical schedule. He
has performed throughout the New York metro area and beyond with
groups of every size and description, including the Temptations,
the Happenings, Marlene VerPlanck, and Bobby Rydell. In
2003, Bill was selected as one of New Jersey’s top jazz
musicians by the Newark Star Ledger for its “Great Day in
Jersey” feature. Bill can be heard on recordings by the Acme
Brass Co., the Jazz Composer’s Workshop Orchestra, the James L.
Dean Big Band, Dick Wells with the Big Band Swing Machine, the
Bensen-Scott Big Band, the Infernos, Bibi Farber, and the Planet
Jazz Big Band, among others. His arrangements and compositions
are regularly performed by a number of bands. Besides performing
on brass instruments ranging from piccolo trumpet to tuba, Bill
also teaches privately and is on the faculty at the Suburban
Community Music Center in New Providence, New Jersey. He also
writes about music for Gannett Newspapers, for whom he has
interviewed such trumpet greats as Doc Severinsen, Maynard
Ferguson, Wynton Marsalis and Arturo Sandoval. In addition
to his musical career, Bill is a web designer and computer
consultant. He lives in Allendale, New Jersey, with his wife
Lorraine, a journalist and author whose book, Life Touches Life:
A Mother’s Story of Stillbirth and Healing, was published in May
2004. |
